Summer Road Trip | Kelowna & Penticton {part four}
we are in the homestretch of our road trip, and at approximately the 1800 picture mark i might also add. although our time in vancouver was short {insert sad face here,} it meant that we had more time to spend in kelowna & penticton {insert smiley face here.}
mr. handsome grew up kelowna, we've frequented it often, and it always holds special memories for us.
the kids loved visiting dads old house, seeing his old school, and hearing about how he spent his days when he was a kid.
we began our morning with a long walk on the boardwalk and at the beach before heading to mission hill for some wine tasting, lunchtime action.
let me start by saying, mission hill is absolutely stunning. seriously beautiful.
we decided to take the hour long tour, the kids got a kick out of the fact that the cellar was a old volcano (mind blown), the bells that would ring every 15 minutes and they even got to taste 'kid-friendly' wine.
after the tour, we checked in for our reservation at the restaurant, The Terrace.
perched up high, you overlook a vineyard on one side and the courtyard on the other. the food was amazing, presented beautifully, paired exceptionally, and one of my favourite meals thus far.
scallops, carpaccio, rose and riesling. #winning
peace country carpaccio | wild arugula, charred onion, oak barrel vinegar
haida gwaii halibut | linguine, shelling peas, prawn broth
2013 reserve chardonnay
roasted scallop | chorizo sausage, tomato jam, summer squash
2013 martin's lane reisling
after you eat a delicious meal and wash it down with a glass of wine, the next step is to obviously go fruit stand hopping.
bring on the cherries!
after the fruit market success, and by success i mean lots of cherry jam, we were penticton bound to meet up with my cousin and her family for dinner. of course we hit up the beach first, for obvious reasons, 38 degree heat kind of reasons.
for dinner we were headed to Bad Tattoo, a brewery that is also in the business of making pizza, which obviously go together seamlessly. mr handsome and i decided that pre-dinner called for a quick tour, since he himself is in the home brew business.
soft pretzel | served with local honey, stone ground mustard dip
roasted corn, black bean & zucchini salad | spinach greens, feta cheese, mole vinaigrette
comfort zone | maple ham, mozzarella, local apples
calabrese | calabrese salami, artichokes, sweet onion, sun-dried tomato, provolone
carolina bbq | slow roasted brisket, sweet-spicy bbq, wild mushrooms, roasted shallots
the following morning we were homeward bound. packed and piled up in the car, we were sad to be leaving and wrapping up our vacation, but more than excited for ice cream at the D Dutchman Dairy.
ice cream makes everything better. #fact.
summer road trip 2015. xo.
