Summer Road Trip 2015 | Victoria {part one}
this year mr. handsome decided to channel his inner Clark Griswold and embark on a family road trip to BC. three thousand kilometres and 2500 photos later (literally) we came home with amazing memories, cherished moments, and the goal to make this an annual tradition.
our trek started bright and early as we were on the road at 4am with a goal to catch the 4pm ferry to victoria. the kids were rockstar travellers, with only two stops along the way (for food of course, oh and gas.) we made great time, powered through word puzzles & games, while belting it out to the radio.
once we arrived in victoria, we checked in, grabbed some dinner, and did a short little walking tour before calling it a night after a long day.
our first full day in victoria just so happened to also be, Canada Day. we took advantage of spending our nation's birthday, playing football at the parliament building, eating fish 'n chips on fishermans wharf, feeding the seals, throwing rocks in the ocean, walking through beacon hill park, eating one of the best dinners to date, and finishing it off with some fireworks over the water. truly amazing and hard to beat.
10 acres bistro + bar + market, came to us upon recommendation. committed to the farm to table approach, if they don't grow it or raise it on their own farm, they will source it around the corner, down the street, up the hill or in the water.
in addition to the restaurant they also sell ethically raised, free run and hormone free eggs, seasonal organic vegetables and flowers.

with a locally driven menu, and the freshest ingredients possible, this was easily one of my favourite dinners ever.
garlic wild baja prawns | locally sourced prawns, roasted garlic, butter, house grilled bread
spring salad | 10 acres seasonal organic vegetables served warm, cipollini onions, crumbled goat cheese, honey ginger vinaigrette
salt spring island mussels | garlic & white wine, grilled house bread
prawn pappardelle | kale, walnut + hazelnut pesto, sweet peas, asparagus, white wine garlic cream sauce, grilled house bread
rotisserie chicken | pan drip roast potatoes, housemade slaw, jus
we spent our final morning in victoria visiting Hatley Castle (where x-men was filmed), Fort Rodd Hill & the Fisgard Lighthouse, which the kids really enjoyed. After lunch we jumped back in the SUV and headed on to stop number 2 of our road trip, Comox.
